Evernote Sync in BibleReader 5: Frequently Asked Questions

BibleReader 5 is available at iTunes. Several learning videos available.

Sync Your Notes to Olive Tree and Evernote

With the release of BibleReader 5.0 we are now using our own servers as the default note sync mechanism. By moving to our servers we are better able to handle the various types of annotations a user may want when using BibleReader.

For example we can now sync highlights and bookmarks where Evernote is only able to sync notes, and our Olive Tree Sync will also allow us to streamline the process of Syncing between multiple devices.

Please note: Evernote sync still exists in BibleReader 5.0 but how you sync using Evernote has changed significantly. We typically expect that users will want to sync one time with Evernote to get their notes onto our server, and then they would stop using Evernote for BibleReader going forward.

BibleReader 4 and Evernote used an Evernote Notebook named “Bible Notes” Everything in this notebook was kept in sync between BibleReader 4 and Evernote.

In BibleReader 5 we now sync with Evernote to a newly created notebook named “Olive Tree”. This change allows you to choose exactly what you want to sync with our new servers.

The BibleReader 5 app does not directly sync with Evernote, but instead it syncs with our servers and they sync with Evernote. See Figure below:

To get data from Evernote to BibleReader 5 on the device:

  • Move the notes you want synced to the “Olive Tree” folder on the Evernote website.
  • Then with your web browser go to sync.olivetree.com, select “Share” and then select the “Sync” button.
Or…

  • From within the BibleReader 5 app you can go to “My Stuff (Briefcase icon) -> External Services -> Evernote”.

If you do this operation from the BibleReader application on your device, a sync between “sync.olivetree.com” and the device will automatically be started, otherwise you will need to open the application and perform a sync to pull the notes down from “sync.olivetree.com”.

To get data from BibleReader 5 to Evernote:

  • Perform a sync operation on the device in order to push your annotations up to the server. (My Stuff -> Sync)
  • Then with your web browser go to sync.olivetree.com, select “Share” and then select the “Sync” button.

Or…
  • From within the BibleReader 5 app you can go to “My Stuff (Briefcase icon) -> External Services -> Evernote”.

At this point you should see your notes (Synchronization of highlights and bookmarks are not supported in Evernote) appear in the “Olive Tree” notebook at the Evernote Site.
