General Questions
What is iLumina™ mobile?
iLumina™ mobile is a Handheld version of the PC iLumina™ software suite
that is offered by Tyndale House Publishers (www.iLumina.com). Most of the
content in iLumina™ mobile is taken from the PC version. We have also added more
features in the BibleReader that help to link all this content together, and that
improve the users experience of this new software suite.
What content comes with iLumina™ mobile?
- NIV Bible -or- ESV Bible
- NLT second edition Bible
- KJV Bible
- Life Application Study Notes
- Comprehensive Commentary
- Concise Commentary
- Over 8,000 encyclopedia articles
- Tyndale Cross Reference System
- Tyndale Verse Finder System
- Invitation to Meet Jesus
- Animations of Baptism and Crucifixion of Jesus
- Virtual Tours of Garden Tomb, Last Supper, and Mount of Olives
- Photos of the holy land

What new BibleReader features come with iLumina™ mobile?
- Tabs: easily switch between your Bibles, Commentaries, Cross References, Life Application Notes, and Dictionary Entries.
- Tap and Hold: Tap and hold over a tab to open a new file, tap and hold over a word to add a bookmark, look it up in the dictionary, search for the word, or view other related content from a different source.
- New Toolbar and Color Icons for Palm. (Also comes with the latest Palm BibleReader download.)
- Home Screens that make it easy to access all the iLumina™ content from a central location.
Please note: Some iLumina™ features, such as home screen, tabs, and tap-and-hold, are not included at this time in the upcoming release of iLumina™ mobile for BibleReader 4.0 on iPhone and BlackBerry.
Will the Bibles and other products I have installed work with iLumina™ ?
Yes! You can access the products you already have installed from the List of Bibles.
Or, with tap and hold over the tabs, select which file you want to view in the tabs, both old and new!
The Home Screens, however, are for iLumina™ content only.
Can I get the new BibleReader features without purchasing all the iLumina™ content?
Only the new toolbar and color icons for Palm are available without the iLumina™ content. You can
Download the latest Palm BibleReader with these new improvements. Tabs and Tap and Hold are only
available if you have purchased iLumina™ mobile.
Can I "upgrade" from the iLumina™ NIV version to the iLumina™ ESV version, or vice versa?
The iLumina™ ESV version is not an upgrade to the iLumina™ NIV version. It is an alternative collection that features the ESV text instead of the NIV, otherwise the content is the same.
However, you can purchase and download the NIV or ESV as an individual Bible file, and it will integrate into the iLumina™ system.
The only difference is that the Bible translation you buy separate from iLumina™ will not show up on the Bible Home Screen.
It will, however, incorporate into the iLumina™ library and tab system.
Installation
How much space do I need on my device?
For a complete installation you will need 92 MB for Palm or 96 MB for Pocket PC - including at least 3 MB in Main Memory. The rest of the files can be installed to a memory card, which is what we recommend.
If you want to do a partial installation, then this size will vary. For example, if you want to leave out the media files then you will only need 55 MB for Palm or Pocket PC.
What files are required to be installed?
To use the full feature set of iLumina™ , all the files should be installed. We do, however, offer a break down of the files so that you can install (1) just the text files or (2) just the media files.
Once you start taking files out of these two separated packages, the functionality of the software decreases.
Where do the files need to be installed?
- On Palm devices, the BibleReader and the TCPMP_ot media player need to be installed in main memory. The auto install file will force these to files to main memory, even if you have selected the Memory Card as your installation location.
- On Pocket PC devices, the BibleReader needs to be installed in main memory. The auto install file will force the BibleReader to main memory, even if you have selected the Memory Card as your installation location.
- On both devices the video media files need to be installed on a storage card. These are the files that start with ?iLum_an? and ?iLum_vt?.
- The rest of the files can be installed to main memory or a storage card (recommended).
After I purchase iLumina™ mobile, which file should I download?
Complete Installation:
- If you are using a PC computer and want to do a complete installation with one download, then download either _Palm_All.exe or _PocketPC_All.exe.
- If you are using a Mac computer and want to do a complete installation with one download, then download either _Palm_All.zip or _PocketPC_All.zip.
Partial Installation or Smaller Downloads:
- If you are using a PC computer and want to either do a partial installation or do a complete installation with two smaller downloads, then download the _TextOnly.exe or _MediaOnly.exe files.
- If you are using a Mac computer and want to either do a partial installation or do a complete installation with two smaller downloads, then download the _TextOnly.zip or _MediaOnly.zip files.
If I purchased iLumina™ mobile, and I see that there is a new version of the BibleReader, will the iLumina™ Mobile BibleReader features work with the new version or do I need an iLumina™ specific version of the BibleReader?
iLumina™ mobile will work with all future upgrades of the BibleReader. You do not need an "iLumina specific" version of the BibleReader.
Device Specific
What features are included in the upcoming release of iLumina™ mobile for BibleReader 4.0 on iPhone and BlackBerry?
You will be able to use all of the Bibles, multi-media items, and other iLumina™ resources, but some iLumina™ features, such as home screen, tabs, and tap-and-hold, are not included at this time in the upcoming release of iLumina™ mobile.
Will iLumina™ mobile work on older Palm devices?
We do not recommend installing iLumina™ mobile to Palm devices running an OS earlier than 5.0. Depending on memory some of the files may work ok, but the multimedia WILL NOT work.
What if my device doesn't have Windows Media 9.0 or higher?
You will not be able to watch the videos, animations, or virtual tours, but the rest of the features will work fine.
Using iLumina™ mobile
Is there a user's manual for iLumina™ mobile?
See our online Getting Started tours for Palm or Pocket PC!
What is a home screen?
The iLumina™ Home Screens are where you can access all the iLumina™ material from a central location. The Main Home Screen includes links to the Bible, Encyclopedia, and Media Center.
Then from each of these Home Screens you can access material specific to that category. From anywhere in the BibleReader, you can always jump back to the Home Screen to start a fresh study, quickly access another segment of the application, or just get your bearings.
How do I get back to the Home Screen?
On a Palm, tap the Home icon on the far right corner of the toolbar.
On a Pocket PC, go to View->?Home Screen?
How do I play the animations and videos?
Open the iLumina™ Home Screen and tap on Media Center. From here you can open the Animations or Video Tours. The media player will launch automatically.
How do I stop the media player?
On a Palm, tap "X" to close the player.
On a Pocket PC, tapping "X" puts the player in background, but it continues to play. To close the player first hit the stop button, then the "X."
Why do videos not play in landscape mode on Palm?
Landscape mode is not supported in this media player.
On PPC I get the following error message ?Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.?
Go to the iLumina™ Preferences. Select ?Media Player 10? as the ?Windows Media Player?.
Can I change the document that each tab opens?
Yes. There are two ways you can do this:
- Tap and Hold on any of the Tabs. A list of the files you can select to open in that tab will come up. Just select the file you want from the list, and it will automatically open in that tab everytime.
- Open iLumina™ Preferences and tap on the "Default Files" button. From here you can select which files you want to open in which tabs, or you can select "Use Last Opened" which will default to the last file you open in that tab.
Why does the dictionary tab open the Encyclopedia? Why does ?Lookup word in dictionary? on tap and hold open the Encyclopedia?
In iLumina™ mobile, the Dictionary is the subset of the Encyclopedia, so looking up a word in the Dictionary is equivalent to looking it up in the Encyclopedia.
How do I access the Maps and Timelines?
Maps - Open the "Bibles and Ref" or "List of Bibles screen." Open the iLum_MapIndex file (be sure you are in the iLumina™ file category).
Timelines - Open a Bible in the Bible tab, then tap and hold on any word. Select the BookIntro item from the bottom of the pop-up list. The first item in the Book Introduction is the Timeline.
How do I turn the tabs on/off?
- Check the iLumina™ Preferences.
- Make sure that the "Enable tabs checkbox" is checked/unchecked.
- If you cannot get to the iLumina™ Preferences then make sure that you have installed iLum_ScreenIntroA.pdb and/or iLum_CmpltComm.pdb.
On a Palm Device, you can also go to Menu->Options->Toggle Tabs
How do I turn tap and hold on/off?
- Check the iLumina™ Preferences.
- Make sure that the ?Enable iLumina™ tap and hold? checkbox is checked/unchecked.
- If you cannot get to the iLumina™ Preferences then make sure that you have installed iLum_ScreenIntroA.pdb and/or iLum_CmpltComm.pdb.
In the iLumina™ Preferences, what does ?Use Last Opened? for a default file mean?
This means that whenever you open a file in a tab, that same file will be used the next time you open that tab. If you want to use the default iLumina™ files in the tabs, then do not select this option.
