The Value of Multiple Translations

The latest article in Olive Tree's Explore the Bible article series is now available to read online, or download to your PDA to take with you and read any time. This article focuses on the value of using multiple Bible translations as you study the Word of God.

Serious Bible students agree that having access to a variety of Bible translations enriches one's understanding of the Scriptures. For this reason, parallel Bibles with multiple translations have been a popular tool for decades. With the advent of personal computers and handheld devices, studying a portion of Scripture in various translations has become even easier. Olive Tree offers a wide array of English and other Bible translations for you to search and compare, over 80 in all. "What possible use could I have for so many translations," you ask? Read on to find out.

New Collegeville Bible Commentary

The New Collegeville Bible Commentary on the New Testament is an excellent resource tool for Bible students. The commentary on each book begins with an introduction for the book which includes discussion on the authorship, the date it was written, the setting it was written in, an outline of the text, the purpose it was written for, and other topics relevant to the writing of the book. The introduction then turns to a verse-by-verse commentary, including references to other locations in scripture that are related to the topic at hand.

Layman's Bible Dictionary

The Layman's Bible Dictionary was written with the lay Bible students and other general, nonspecialist users in mind. It is compact, authoritative, and easy to understand. In contrast to the exhaustive approach taken by many dictionaries of the day, The Layman's Bible Dictionary contains about 2,500 articles that are carefully selected because of their biblical significance. The articles have been written in a terse, no-nonsense style, including only the most vital and essential information. The result--a conveniently-sized dictionary that allows a student of the Bible to quickly and easily find the most important information about key biblical topics. The articles in this dictionary also include thousands of Scripture references to document the biblical subjects under discussion, and to help Bible students to dig deeper in their study of God's Word.
