As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places\u2026Other seed fell among thorns\u2026Still other seed fell on good soil.\u201d<\/em><br><em>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.olivetree.com\/bible\/?query=Matthew+13%3A3%E2%80%938&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matthew 13:3\u20138<\/a>, NIV<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-soap-study-on-matthew-13-observation\"><strong>SOAP STUDY ON MATTHEW 13: OBSERVATION<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this is often known as the parable of the sower and the seed, it can also be said this is a parable about the soil. Why? Because all <strong>four types of soil<\/strong> are essentially the same dirt. Yet, they are in different conditions and respond in different ways to cultivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-made-one-soil-more-responsive-and-the-other-less\"><em>What made one soil more responsive and the other less?<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When the New Testament was written, communities were agriculturally based. A family would be appointed a section of land to farm. Also, every farmer\u2019s plot was adjacent to their neighbor\u2019s. In order to get to the fields, the farmers would walk along the boundaries bordering each field to avoid stepping on the growing plants. So, all the farmers used the &#8220;path.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, the soil on the path would compact. It is never plowed and never fertilized. In the parable, the seed that is sown on the path cannot penetrate the ground because of the constant use. So, the condition of the first soil is hard and impermeable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-second-type-of-soil\"><strong>SECOND TYPE OF SOIL<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The second type of soil mentioned in the parable is the \u201crocky places\u201d or the shallow soil where the plow didn\u2019t cut deeply enough to break up the shale or hard ground just below the surface. This soil produced only plants with weak, shallow roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-third-type-of-soil\"><strong>THIRD TYPE OF SOIL<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The third type of soil mentioned is the thorny soil. It is where the plow can&#8217;t reach, in the corners of the field. Here, weeds overtook the crop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All the types of soil<\/strong> mentioned here are actually in the same plot of ground with one major difference. Only one area fully yielded to cultivation\u2014being changed and prepared for planting. This is good soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The greatest amount of fruit produced was not determined by how rich the soil was, but how yielded to the plow it was. The soil in each condition received seed, but not all produced quality fruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone receives seed, the Word of God. Everyone has potential for the harvest, living a fruitful life. But the ones who will produce the most fruit will be the ones most yielded to cultivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-soap-study-application\"><strong>SOAP STUDY: APPLICATION<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>How I apply this passage is by asking questions. Can I &#8220;cultivate&#8221; my life? How correctable am I? How quickly do I repent? Can I self\u2013correct? The greater my yielding to God\u2019s cultivation the greater the capacity of my fruitfulness in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-soap-study-prayer\"><strong>SOAP STUDY: PRAYER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Father, create in me a soft heart. Create an open heart, readily yielded to your Word and your commands. Make me fruitful, I pray. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How has God \u201ccultivated\u201d your life or someone you know?
