\u201cPeace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>\u2014John 14:27<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Peace, shalom<\/em> (shah\u2013loam<\/em>). Shalom comes from the root verb shalam<\/em>, meaning \u201cto be complete, perfect, and full.\u201d Thus shalom<\/em> is much more than the absence of war and conflict; it is the wholeness that the entire human race seeks. The word shalom<\/em> occurs about 250 times in the Old Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Psalm 35:27<\/a>, God takes delight in the shalom<\/em> (the wholeness, the total well\u2013being) of His servant. In Isaiah 53:5<\/a>, the suffering, beaten Messiah brought us shalom<\/em>. The angels understood that Jesus was to be the great peace\u2013bringer. They cried: \u201cGlory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased\u201d (Luke 2:14\u201317<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The saving power of His death and resurrection makes it possible for us to have peace with God. Jesus made us right with God (Romans 5:1).<\/a> But also, the indwelling of His life and character through the Holy Spirit helps us learn to abide in the peace of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus said to His disciples, \u201cI am leaving you with a gift\u2014peace of mind and heart\u201d (John 14:27<\/a>). Surrender to His will and submission to His Word will bring inner rest, as we allow the peace of God to \u201crule\u201d in our hearts (Colossians 3:15<\/a>), that is to let God\u2019s peace act as umpire<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1)<\/strong> over decisions that would trouble you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2)<\/strong> overruling doubts that would disturb you, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3)<\/strong> overthrowing the Adversary\u2019s lies that would defeat or deter you. Perfect peace is available when the heart and mind keep focused on God\u2019s promise, power, and presence. Trust Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What troubles and doubts might you need to surrender to Jesus, the peace-bringer, today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
