After some research, we found one that we think you all will enjoy greatly. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olivetree.com\/store\/product.php?productid=77409\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Reformed Expository Commentary Series<\/a> is edited by Richard Phillips and Phillip Ryken: two Reformed pastors dedicated to Christ-centered preaching paired with a vigorously Reformed doctrinal stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-little-background\"><strong>A LITTLE BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phillips and Ryken were both proteges of James Montgomery Boice. Sound familiar? We often talk about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olivetree.com\/store\/product.php?productid=77353\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Boice Expositional Commentary Series<\/a>. Boice&#8217;s set contains 27 volumes\u2014that man knew how to write!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, when Phillips and Ryken decided to produce their own commentary set, it was very important to them that they didn&#8217;t simply copy Boice. They wanted to make sure that their resource would be fulfilling a need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-commentary-that-answers-a-need-or-3\"><strong>A COMMENTARY THAT ANSWERS A NEED (OR 3)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are three needs that Phillips and Ryken want to fill:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-there-a-few-commentaries-that-extend-from-exegesis-into-exposition-answering-technical-questions-while-also-applying-the-passage\"><strong>1. There a <em>few<\/em> commentaries that extend from exegesis into exposition (answering technical questions while also applying the passage)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>But this commentary set proclaims, explains, and applies the whole text within each set\u2014perfect for sermons and Bible lessons<\/li><li>It also includes information on exegesis, text criticism, theology, and historical studies, but it shares the information in a way that can be used directly in a sermon<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-there-are-even-fewer-commentaries-that-teach-a-christ-centered-message-that-reflects-reformed-doctrinal-stances\"><strong>2.&nbsp;There are even<em> fewer<\/em> commentaries that teach a Christ-centered message that reflects Reformed doctrinal stances<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>But this commentary is consistently using a Christ-centered message in every passage of Scripture<\/li><li>And it is also staunchly Reformed, relying on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olivetree.com\/store\/product.php?productid=42289&amp;spMailingID=55185133&amp;spUserID=MzAxMzg1NjU1MjAzS0&amp;spJobID=1263578122&amp;spReportId=MTI2MzU3ODEyMgS2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Westminster Confessions<\/a> heavily<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-and-lastly-barely-any-commentaries-give-real-examples-of-their-teaching-being-used-in-the-pulpit\"><strong>3. And lastly, barely <em>any<\/em> commentaries give real&nbsp;examples of their teaching being used in the pulpit<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>But this commentary organized as transcripts of sermons used by the authors\u2014they were required to preach anything they included in this set!<\/li><li>And the information is so applicable, that even the editors continue to use this resource for their daily devotions<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Most of this information c<\/em>ame<em> from an interview conducted by Tim Challies, which y<\/em>ou <em>can<a href=\"https:\/\/www.challies.com\/articles\/the-reformed-expository-commentary-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> view here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-but-how-does-it-work\"><strong>BUT HOW DOES IT WORK?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s an example of how this resource works with the Resource Guide. The beginning of this sermon starts with an attention-getter, referencing The Lord of the Rings (automatic bonus points!). Then, it transitions into explaining how we can believe the miracles presented in the Bible and an explanation of the passage.
