I was recently preaching through the last section of Matthew\u2019s gospel and made an important discovery. I discovered that Matthew uses the same word fifteen times in 26:2\u201327:26<\/a>. The word is \u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b4\u03af\u03b4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b9 and the Legacy Standard Bible<\/a> translates it as \u201cdeliver\u201d or \u201cbetray.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me walk you through how I made this discovery and show you how discoveries like this can aid your understanding of the Scriptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong\u2019s Bibles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While studying any Bible is valuable, using a Strong’s tagged Bible<\/a> allows you to take full advantage of recent technological advancements in biblical study. To maximize the potential of your digital devices, consider investing in resources like Strong’s tagged Bibles<\/a>. This technology is not only readily available and user-friendly but can also significantly reduce your study time and lead to profound insights into God’s Word. Although traditional Bible study methods remain beneficial, incorporating these modern tools can enhance your understanding and deepen your engagement with the scriptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step One<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Once you have purchased a Strong\u2019s tagged Bible<\/a>, select the resource in your library and it will open in the main window. In the Verse Chooser, navigate to Matthew 26<\/a> and it should look like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blue and maroon words are all the words with Strong\u2019s numbers tagging. Once I tap the word \u201cdelivered\u201d in verse 2<\/a>, a pop-up window will open. This window shows the Greek word, Strong\u2019s number, related Greek words, a brief definition, and the different ways translators choose to translate it. All with a simple click or tap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Two<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What we want to find out though is how Matthew uses this word. So, in the bottom of the pop-up window, you\u2019ll see the option to Search for g3860 or Lookup \u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03b4\u03af\u03b4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b9 (learn more here<\/a>). Tap on Search for g3860 and you\u2019ll see the search results arranged by book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since we want to see the search results for Matthew\u2019s gospel, just scroll down to Matthew 26:2<\/a> and you should see a list of verses like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Results and Implications<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Beginning with Jesus\u2019 prediction in Matthew 26:2<\/a>, these verses show how he was going to be delivered over for crucifixion. He would be betrayed by one of his own disciples, given into the hands of the Jewish leaders, delivered over to Pilate, who delivered him up to be crucified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we can trace this theme through Matthew\u2019s use of the word \u201cbetray,\u201d we wouldn\u2019t see how it connects to Jesus\u2019 prediction without access to the original Greek. Strong\u2019s tagged Bibles<\/a>, like the Legacy Standard Bible with Strong\u2019s<\/a>, enables us to discover themes like these without being proficient in the original languages and obscured by Bible translations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
