Title: John Phillips Commentary Series - Exploring Romans
Publisher: Kregel
Author: John Phillips

Description

Romans is the gospel according to Paul. There can be little doubt that it was Paul who thought through the theological implications of Christianity. It was Paul who thought through the deeper meaning of the Old Testament in the light of Calvary and in the light of that great experience which was when, on the Damascus road, he came face to face with Jesus of Nazareth and recognized him at last as the risen, ascended and glorified Lord. It was Paul who did justice to the cross.

It was Paul who expounded the true meaning of Christ's coming and His present glorified position at God's right hand. As Christians we have found it comparatively easy to accept the truth of Christ's death for us on the cross and the shedding of His blood as the basis for forgiveness for all our sins, and we have rejoiced in the fact that there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). We have, however, seemed to find it exceedingly difficult to believe that not only does the cross supply the answer to the past and give us a hope for the future, but it proclaims to us with no uncertain sound a present-day experience of deliverance. In his risen life indwelling us by the Spirit we have deliverance from what we are in order that we may become like him. That message is clearly sounded in Phillip's Romans volume.

The John Phillips Commentary Series is designed to provide pastors, Sunday school teachers, and students of the Scripture with doctrinally sound interpretation that emphasizes the practical application of Bible truth. Working from the familiar King James Version, Dr. Phillips not only provides helpful commentary on the text, but also includes detailed outlines and numerous illustrations and quotations. Anyone wanting to explore the meaning of God's Word in greater depth - for personal spiritual growth or as a resource for preaching and teaching - will welcome the guidance and insights of this respected series.
