Charles Haddon Spurgeon's daily devotional texts have become classics of the genre, unrivaled in passionate and inspirational language, pastoral concern for believers' daily walk, and careful inquiry into scripture. Morning by Morning and Evening by Evening collect these classic devotions into an easy-to-use format, with entries for each day of the year.

Each meditation begins with a verse of scripture. This newly released version, updated for modern readers, uses the English Standard Version Bible for the Scripture text. (The original version used the King James Bible.) Editor Alistair Begg has also updated the language for modern readers. He explains:

In revising and updating the material, I have tried to make them more readable without spoiling the splendor of the language. Most of the changes are minor and will go largely undetected. On a few occasions, because of the difference between the King James Version and the English Standard Version, I was forced to take more liberty. My goal throughout has been to fashion the material in such a way that it will be accessible to a far wider audience than before. . . My prayer is that another generation will emerge thankful to God for the work of Spurgeon, whose memory we revere and whose example of godly devotion we seek to follow.   —Alistair Begg, from the Introduction

A contemporary edition of a classic text for believers who desire to strengthen their daily walk with God and increase their familiarity with scripture! Convenient handheld formats make it even easier to incorporate devotional time into a busy life.

Morning by Morning contains 365 devotional readings for each morning of the year.

See Evening by Evening, the companion devotional text to Morning by Morning, also available through Olive Tree.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was an English Baptist pastor at New Park Street Chapel in London. He converted to Christianity at the age of fifteen, and by the age of twenty-two, he was the most popular preacher in England and remained so for the latter half of the 1800s. He frequently spoke to crowds over 10,000 in the days before electronic amplification. Known as the "Prince of Preachers," he delivered nearly thirty-six hundred sermons throughout his life. A prolific writer as well, many of Spurgeon's works remain in print to this day.

Alistair Begg is the senior pastor at Parkside Church in Cleveland, Ohio. An author of several books, he is also heard daily and weekly on the national radio program Truth for Life.
