A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament (2025)
A sound aid to understanding the transmission of the Greek New Testament text.
This all-new edition of A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament refers to the Greek text of the 29th edition of the Novum Testamentum Graece (NA29) and the 6th edition of the Greek New Testament (GNT6) and comments on all the apparatus entries of the GNT6 in concise and accessible language. The edition is also suitable for use with NA28 and NA29, as these editions also include all the apparatus entries of the GNT6 (with a different selection of witnesses). A comprehensive introduction provides further information on the New Testament textual transmission, fundamental principles of textual criticism, and the use of the Greek New Testament.
The author, H.A.G. Houghton, is Professor of New Testament Textual Scholarship and Director of the Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing at the University of Birmingham. He is a member of the editorial board for NA29 and GNT6 and is therefore ideally suited to explain the board's decisions in the preparation of both editions.
This edition replaces Bruce M. Metzger's A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament, which has been considered a standard work for decades but is now outdated in terms of research history.
