Description

The book of Amos delivers a penetrating message of God’s justice and holiness to a people enjoying prosperity while living in moral and spiritual decline. Called from rural Judah to prophesy against the northern kingdom of Israel, Amos exposes religious hypocrisy, social injustice, and covenant unfaithfulness, declaring that God’s chosen people are not exempt from judgment. Yet the book closes with a note of hope, promising restoration and future blessing under God’s faithful rule.

In this volume, Allan M. Harman provides a clear, faithful, and pastorally focused exposition of Amos. Writing from an evangelical and Reformed perspective, Harman combines careful attention to the biblical text and historical setting with thoughtful theological reflection and practical application. Accessible yet exegetically sound, this commentary is an invaluable resource for pastors, teachers, and serious students seeking to understand and proclaim Amos’s enduring call to righteousness, justice, and wholehearted obedience to God.

Allan M. Harman has had a life–time interest in exposition of the biblical text. He is Research Professor at the Presbyterian Theological College in Melbourne, Australia. He has lectured and preached in many countries and served as the senior editor of the Reformed Theological Review, Australia’s oldest theological journal until he retired at the end of 2013.
