Faith and Politics: Filipino Evangelical Insights in Political Theology

Worship is often thought of as only what is done in a Sunday service. While this is an important element, Scripture teaches that worship encompasses how Christians express their convictions in all spheres of life, including the political realm. This collection of essays explores the relationship between pananampalataya at politika, faith and politics, that unfolds in the political context of the Philippines. Written by experts in their fields, this interdisciplinary book provides a biblical framework and profound theological insights for Christian socio-political engagement in confronting the major issues of poverty alleviation, social justice, global warming, and peacebuilding. Divided in two parts, the essays begin by exploring the need for politically engaged worship through the lens of church, state, and governance. They go on to provide practical insights into contemporary issues, challenges, and prospects for evangelical political engagement. From the Philippines to beyond, these essays are the perfect companion for Christians around the world who seek to creatively develop their vision and mission for strategically engaging in the public sphere to make the world reflect Christ.
