Balanced Rule of Saint Benedict in Modern Language

For centuries, the Rule of Saint Benedict has shaped communities of prayer, humility, and service. The Balanced Rule of Saint Benedict in Modern Language offers a readable, contemporary paraphrase—preserving Benedict’s fatherly warmth while making his counsel close-at-hand for today’s reader. Beginning with an invitation to “receive…with the ear of your heart,” it frames spiritual growth as steady, grace-filled formation: repentance, good works, restraint of speech, humility, obedience, and shared life. The Rule’s rhythms—prayer, Scripture, labor, and care for the vulnerable—are presented not as harsh burdens but as a “school for the Lord’s service,” shaping a life of joy, peace, and durable faith.
