The last work undertaken by Professor von Rad before his death in the autumn of 1971 was this revision of his commentary on Genesis, parts of which originally appeared in German as long go as 1949. The introduction was extensively rewritten, and the early chapters of the commentary were reworked equally thoroughly. From Genesis 12 onward the text was only minimally altered due to restrictions associated with resetting the English version of the text.
The Old Testament Library provides fresh and authoritative treatments of important aspects of Old Testament study through commentaries and general surveys. The contributors are scholars of international standing.
