Biblia Hebraica Quinta (BHQ) is a detailed and up-to-date presentation of the available evidence for the transmission of the Hebrew Bible text. It is being developed from the ground up by an international and interdenominational team of scholars, based on the oldest completely preserved manuscript of the Hebrew Bible, the Codex EBP.I B 19a (commonly known as the Leningrad Codex or Codex Leningradensis) from the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg.
BHQ provides an excellent overview of the existing textual variants that are relevant for translation and exegesis. Completely redesigned and expanded from the preceding BHS, all significant variants from the Qumran texts are now listed in full, along with a detailed commentary section containing in-depth comments on individual text-critical questions along with translation of the Great Masorah as well as explanations of the Small Masorah.
At the beginning of each volume there is a table of accents, a glossary for the Masorah parva, a list of the definitions and abbreviations used to characterize the readings, and a useful sample page that illustrates the features of the layout. Each volume ends with a detailed yet succinct discussion of the textual witnesses for each biblical book that contains a wealth of helpful information, and the manuscripts and critical editions of the texts are clearly annotated.
In addition this Olive Tree version includes Westminster parsings and the Brown, Driver, & Briggs (BDB) Hebrew and English Lexicon.
